Thank you for the update regarding electrolytes. I will pass it on to some others who are not on this group.

The note regarding the people who do not eat prior to a hydro clean is also an added plus to your information.

to-date on the effects of colonics on serum electrolytes (Collins JG,
Mittman P. Effects of colon irrigation on serum
electrolytes. J Naturopath Med 1990;1:4--9). If my memory serves, the
only two electrolytes that showed any affect were sodium and chloride.
This may explain why Edgar Cayce recommended adding salt and baking soda
to the "early waters" of the colonic, which is something I do in my
hydrotherapy practice. I have had no complaints in eleven years of
anyone experiencing adverse electrolyte reactions. One thing I have
seen, though, are folks who have not eaten before they arrive for their
colonic sometimes seem to have a drop in blood sugar (no real test to
prove the theory, though). When that happens, I usually just offer a
little orange or grape juice, and they're fine.

I have had 3 or 4 hydrotherapy treatments. Sometimes you get a little cramping, but it really doesn't hurt. The most pain is paying $60 each for them. pegiot

Hi Dakota,

I've had lots of colonics, and I've had one or two that came with
uncomfortable cramping, but most of the time they're actually quite a
pleasant experience. It probably sounds weird to hear that, but it is
really very true.

I also have a practice in colon hydrotherapy, and your question is the
number one question my clients ask me. As a matter of fact, it is the
first one I answer on my FAQ page. Most of my clients experience very
little discomfort; although, once in a while I have a client that
experiences a bit of cramping. My "first-time" clients are always very
nervous before a treatment, and I've discovered no magic bullet for
putting them at ease; but always after the treatment they are pleasantly
surprised and they really do wonder what they were so nervous about.

Thanks for your reply. I had no idea that yogic teachings were averse
to colonics. Many of my clients are yoga instructors. Perhaps you
could share your sources with me that I could educate them on this. My
primary objective as a practitioner is to "first do no harm." This is
the first I've heard of colonics being harmful according to yogic
teachings. I think very highly of yoga, and the many yoga practitioners
with whom I have come in contact. I would like to know more about this.

It was my understanding that the practice of yoga is very, very ancient
and internal cleansing has been a very important component of yogic
practice. What was done prior to the advent of magnesium citrate to
facilitate internal cleansing?

I have the same understanding about colonics only cleansing the large
bowel. Can you expand on how magnesium citrate works to cleanse the
small intestine?

Doing a cleanse with colonic is adverse to yogic teachings because it distends the colon. I do yoga. The fellow I spoke to never used colonics or enemas so I know it can work. Colonics and enemas only reach part of the colon and don't even touch the small intestine. The whole digestive tract needs to be cleaned out.
