Hi Mei,
Green stool is often indicative of what is in the diet; although, it can
indicate the presence of more-than-usual bile salts. We have to remember
the contents of the bowel are a chemical/bacterial soup, and without
laboratory analysis, it's just a guess. As to the blood; again without
lab analysis it is only a guess. Typically, very red blood comes from
very near the rectum or anus and can indicate a broken capillary or
hemorrhoid that has flared up. This could have been caused by the
insertion of the speculum, but it could have also been caused by some
over-zealous wiping. Neither of these are dangerous and wouldn't
contra-indicate a colonic but might make you want to think about a
softer, gentler approach. If there is blood present from deeper within
the colon or from further up in the intestinal tract, it is usually
brown similar to the color of stool and is very difficult to detect.
This wouldn't necessarily contra-indicate a colonic, either. If,
however, your husband is alarmed, it never hurts to get a medical
opinion. Gastro-intestinal physicians have access to wonderful
diagnostic tools, so why wait and guess? Your husband also might take
into consideration that many doctors are "anti-colonic" without having
any peer-reviewed evidence that colonics are harmful. These are all
things to consider when asking yourself this question, but ultimately
using his own common sense and his gut (pun intended) intuition is the
best method for getting this question answered.
Cheers,
Robin
